John Mayo Receives Honorary Degree in Economics from the University of Basel

Basel, Switzerland - John Mayo of Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business received an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the University of Basel in Switzerland on November 30, 2007.
The ceremony held at St. Martin's Church was part of the 457th annual Academic Awards ceremonies for the University of Basel. The ceremony seeks to honor those people who have positively contributed to both world-wide academic thought and to the University of Basel.
The Honorary Doctorate was given to Professor Mayo "for his distinguished research and groundbreaking publications on the applied theory of competition, in particular in the field of network industries; for successfully combining research and practice in his role as an economic advisor and consultant to both the U.S. government and private enterprise; for serving as a Zaeslin Fellow of Law and Economics at the University of Basel, and thereby contributing to the success of the programme from the outset through words, deeds, and outstanding teaching."
Professor Mayo commented that, "The University of Basel has produced many terrific scholars for five and a half centuries. I am completely overwhelmed and moved that such a grand community of scholars would honor me in this way."
