Scott Wallsten on Kojo Nnamdi Show
Date: September 16, 2008
Senior Policy Fellow Scott Wallsten was a featured participant on the Kojo Nnamdi Show. Scott spoke in a segment titled "Unlimited Internet? Not Anymore" hosted by Corey Flintoff and also featuring Ben Ross, Policy Director of Free Press.
Wallsten advocated for congestion pricing for broadband use: "It's an idea in telecommunications that's been around for as long as there has been telecommunications. We used to pay higher prices during peak hours to make telephone calls. ... As voice traffic has become such a small component of all data traffic, ... it's become more common to have all you can eat pricing. ... So this isn't a new concept in telecommunications. It's not even new in broadband. ... As an economist, I think congestion pricing is great. When there is congestion, an efficient way to deal with it is through pricing."
