The FCC, more than any other federal agency, stands at an uncertain crossroads. With the election of Donald Trump, the Commission is set to have its first Republican Chairman in almost a decade, and, sooner or later, a Republican majority. Already, there is widespread speculation, much of it based on little to no evidence, about what a new Trump-appointed FCC majority will do. For now, we only know what they will not do. Trump’s advisors, along with leading Members of Congress and the agency’s two Republican Commissioners, have already made clear their first priority: to end the agency’s misguided intrusions into the Internet economy, and to reinstate policies that encourage continued private investment.
