ICYMI: October Discussion Featuring Nathan Leamer

Posted in News  |  Tagged , ,

During this week’s webinar featuring Nathan Leamer, founder of Fixed Gear Strategies, the discussion focused on what tech and telecom issues will rise to prominence under the next administration. Lemur provided an in-depth look at what’s next for the industry and the potential implications of each administration’s agenda.

Some highlights:

  • Leamer emphasized that the new Congress must renew the commission’s expired authority to conduct spectrum auctions.
  • He also predicted that broadband affordability will be a top priority for the party in power next year, and that initiatives like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and Universal Service Fund (USF) will continue to be debated.
  • The team expressed the need for greater transparency regarding how Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) funding is being allocated and the specific amounts being spent.
  • Leamer also highlighted that the allocation of BEAD funding will either continue the way it has or under Trump’s leadership he believes alternative technical guidance will be part of the conversation again.
  • If Vice President Harris wins the election, several other pressing issues may come to the forefront, such as how to address the backlash from potential court rulings that strike down the administration’s Title II and digital discrimination policies.
