Center Scholar Catherine Tinsley (professor of management and faculty director of the Georgetown University Women’s Leadership Institute) was joined by the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leader, for “Women Assuming Leadership: The Opportunities and Challenges Ahead,” a presentation and discussion in Rome on April 16 at Georgetown University’s annual John Carroll Weekend alumni leadership conference. The conversation was informed by Tinsley’s research on women’s leadership in corporate America and Pelosi’s political accomplishments and trailblazing leadership in the House of Representatives. The discussion ranged from the slow but steadily increasing numbers of women in the House and Senate both as elected representatives and as professional staff to the under-representation of women in corporate leadership to perceptions of whether men and women lead differently.
