On May 7, 2021, John Mayo participated in a panel discussion on “Killer Acquisitions” with Douglas Melamed (Stanford), Maureen Olhausen (Baker Botts) and Danny Sokol (University of Florida). The panel first heard Professor Mayo discuss his recent joint research (with Jeff Macher) on the evolution of merger enforcement intensity. The panel then reflected on the implications of this research for the current antitrust reforms being proposed in Washington and, in particular, how to assess mergers of incumbent firms with nascent competitors.
