Senior Policy Scholar Catherine Tinsley (professor of management and faculty director of the Georgetown University Women’s Leadership Institute) will present “The Hidden Barrier” at The Power Shift Forum for Women in the World Economy (new window), an annual symposium on women as economic actors in the global marketplace led by the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, hosted on May 4-5 here at the McDonough School of Business. “The Hidden Barrier” is informed by Tinsley’s extensive empirical research on women’s leadership. Often women face obstacles in their rise to leadership positions. Tinsley discusses evidence-based explanations for overcoming these barriers both for leaders themselves and for leaders to enable others.

Tinsley will also lead a panel discussion, “Moving the Needle.” Many organizations invest in interventions that “sound right” or “feel” like they might work, but may not actually move the needle. This panel examines the use of evidence-based change interventions and corporate initiatives that work.
