The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) includes more than one trillion dollars to modernize roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports, airports, broadband, and drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. Implementing the many programs and spending the money efficiently will be challenging.

This Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy (CBPP) event explores and considers several implementation questions in detail: How should funding be distributed across sectors? What are the various uses for the funds? What are some of the biggest hurdles in administering the funds? Will the funds make an impact? How will performance be measured? And how will entities receiving funds report on progress and be held accountable?

This event – part of our ongoing Georgetown on the Hill series – brings together a distinguished panel of experts to discuss, compare, and contrast infrastructure investment in freight rail, roads and bridges, and telecommunications.

Moderator:

  • John Mayo – Executive Director, Center for Business & Public Policy; Elsa Carlson McDonough Chair of Business Administration; Professor of Economics, Business and Public Policy Georgetown University (McDonough School of Business)

Panelists:

  • Fred Miller – Assistant General counsel and Government Affairs Liaison American Association of Railroads (AAR)
  • Matthew Turner – Professor of Economics Brown University
  • Scott Wallsten – President and Senior Fellow Technology Policy Institute (TPI)

This forum is part of the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy’s Georgetown on the Hill series at which we convene policymakers, academics, and industry experts to discuss important economic policy issues of the day.
