In this webinar, Diana Eisner, VP, Policy & Advocacy at USTelecom, joined Carolyn Brandon and Jennifer Fritzsche to discuss all things broadband, including the status of BEAD programs, the bi-partisan USF reform effort, the evolution of broadband network technology, and the key issues to keep an eye on as we head into election season.

Some highlights:

  • It’s vital that the USF program is reformed so that it is sustainable, and the ACP should be folded into the USF program.
  • ACP has spurred Congress to act in a more bipartisan way with respect to USF reform.
  • The transition from legacy copper-based networks to faster and more dynamic technology is critical to the U.S. economy.  Much of the telecom industry is focused on retiring copper facilities in favor of fiber and/or high speed mobile broadband.
  • The next six months of telecom policy depends on which way the election goes. Eisner predicts that AI will continue to be an all-hands-on deck matter and that privacy will be at the forefront of Congress’s agenda in 2025.
